Two outdoor cameras at €34.99: the Ring Stick Up Cam Battery and the Tapo C310 had the same price on their official French shops on 29 September 2026. Three years later, the Ring will have cost €119.97 more in subscription fees just to play back its videos. It all comes down to video storage, and that is where Tapo and Ring differ most.

Tapo, if the goal is to…

  • keep videos locally on a microSD card, with no subscription
  • control cameras with Google Assistant or Alexa
  • watch a place with no internet box, thanks to 4G
  • move up to 4K or dual-lens models

Ring, if the goal is to…

  • fit cameras into an Alexa home with Echo Show screens
  • keep up to 180 days of history in the cloud
  • pay as little as possible upfront, on promotion

Ranges and prices checked on 29 September 2026 on the French Tapo Store and Ring shop. Ring prices were promotional on that date.

Storage and subscription: the real difference

At Tapo, every outdoor camera in the top 10 outdoor security cameras accepts a microSD card up to 512 GB. Videos stay in the camera and can be viewed from the app at no extra cost. Tapo Care adds a cloud copy: 7 days of clip history from €3.99 a month, 30 days from €11.99.

Ring works the other way round. Without a subscription, the app shows the live feed and sends alerts, but no recorded video can be viewed. Three Ring Home plans exist in France:

Ring Home planPriceDevices coveredHistory
Basic€3.99/month or €39.99/yearOne camera or doorbellUp to 180 days
Standard€9.99/month or €99.99/yearAll devices at one locationUp to 180 days
Premium€19.99/month or €199.99/yearAll devices at one locationUp to 180 days, plus 14 days of continuous recording

This is where Ring is strong: 180 days of history, against 30 at most with Tapo Care. For anyone who wants to go back six months, Ring keeps the edge.

The 3-year cost, for one camera

Ring Stick Up Cam Battery at €34.99, plus Ring Home Basic at €39.99 a year: €154.96 over three years. Tapo C310 at €34.99 with a microSD card: no subscription needed to play back videos. With three Ring cameras, the Standard plan reaches €299.97 over the same period.

Ecosystem and voice assistants

Ring belongs to Amazon, and it shows. Its cameras appear on Echo Show screens and respond to Alexa voice commands, according to Ring’s documentation. Google Assistant does not appear there.

Tapo lists both assistants on its product sheets: Alexa and Google Assistant. For a home with Google Nest speakers, the question is quickly settled.

Range and price

The French Tapo Store lists 20 outdoor cameras on 29 September 2026. It includes 360° wired models (C520WS, C560WS), battery cameras (C425), solar kits (C460 KIT, C675D KIT), a 4G camera (C501GW) and dual-lens models. Prices run from €34.99 for the C310 to €229.99 for the C675D KIT.

Ring’s French shop shows 7 outdoor cameras on the same date, from €34.99 (Stick Up Cam Battery) to €89.99 (Outdoor Camera Plus Solar), in battery, wired or solar versions. No 4G camera appears in that list.

On image quality, the Stick Up Cam Battery films in 1080p. At Tapo, the C460 KIT, C560WS and C675D KIT go up to 4K.

The verdict

For a home that wants to keep its videos on site, with no monthly bill, Tapo wins on almost every criterion. Ring keeps two solid arguments: the deepest Alexa integration on the market and 180 days of cloud history. Both come with a monthly fee.

To compare models one by one, the ranking of the best outdoor security cameras has the detailed spec sheets. More face-offs in the security cameras section are on their way.
