The French Tapo Store alone lists 20 outdoor security cameras, from €34.99 to €229.99. Add Ring, Reolink or Eufy to the list and the choice becomes unreadable. This top 10 sorts the market by situation: power socket or not, internet box or not, tight budget or not.

This ranking is not based on real-world testing. It compares official spec sheets, storage and subscription terms, and prices checked on 29 September 2026. The full method is public.

How this ranking works

Each camera is compared on four criteria, read directly from the manufacturers’ spec sheets. No figure is estimated.

01Day and night image

Resolution, field of view, night vision range and colour.

02Connection and power

Wi-Fi, Ethernet or 4G, mains, battery or solar: what the camera requires at installation.

03Real cost

Price checked on the stated date, plus the subscription needed to play back videos.

04App and ecosystem

AI detection, Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility.

Wi-Fi, 4G or solar: which outdoor camera to choose?

A power socket within two metres of the mounting spot? A wired camera like the C560WS or the C520WS is still the simplest choice: no battery to watch, and Ethernet as a fallback.

No socket but plenty of sun is where solar kits shine (C460 KIT, S340, C675D KIT). No internet box at all, and only 4G works.

The 3-year cost

A Ring Stick Up Cam Battery at €34.99 with the Ring Home Basic plan at €39.99 a year comes to €154.96 over three years. A Tapo C425 at €89.99 needs no subscription to play back its videos from a microSD card.

The other cameras in the section are grouped under security cameras.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best outdoor security camera in 2026?

For a mains-powered setup, the Tapo C560WS tops this ranking: 4K image, 360° rotation, Wi-Fi 6 or Ethernet and microSD storage up to 512 GB, for €99.99 as checked on 29 September 2026. With no cable to run, the Tapo C460 KIT, sold with its solar panel, takes over at €119.99.

Can an outdoor camera work without Wi-Fi?

Yes, with a 4G model. The Tapo C501GW takes a nano-SIM card and sends its alerts over the mobile network, with no internet box. It needs a data plan and good 4G coverage at the exact spot where the camera will be mounted.

Do you need a subscription to record outdoor camera footage?

Not with every brand. Tapo cameras and the Reolink Argus 4 Pro record to a microSD card, the Eufy SoloCam S340 to its 8 GB built-in storage. With Ring, playing back recorded videos requires a Ring Home subscription, from €3.99 a month.

How long does a solar security camera last?

It depends on how much sun the spot gets. Tapo announces up to 200 days for the C460 KIT (10,000 mAh battery and bundled solar panel) and up to 300 days on battery alone for the C425. Reolink announces about 2 months per charge for the Argus 4 Pro without a panel.
